SECTION 2 - TELEPHONE / EMAIL POLICY
As of July 1, 2014 the Section 2 Staff will no longer take calls from parents and students about eligibility and other Section 2 and/or NYSPHSAA regulations. In addition, the Section 2 staff must prioritize responses to the member schools as it tries to balance an effective workload.
Reason For the Policy – Section 2 needs your help in addressing a serious problem. The Section 2 staff receives hundreds of telephone calls and e-mails every week from our member schools. Because Section 2 exists to serve those schools, responding to their inquiries must be our top priority. The large volume of calls and emails from parents and students is dramatically affecting our ability to serve our member schools.
Solution for Parents and Students – School principals or athletic administrators have always been the first and most preferred contact resource for parents and students. This Section 2 policy reinforces school personnel as the source to whom parents and students must direct their questions. As always, if a school administrator needs assistance in answering a question, they will contact the Section 2 office for a “final answer” and then pass it along to the parent or student.
Section 2 understands that parent and student questions are important. We thank you for your understanding and for supporting our commitment to high quality service directly to our member schools, and through schools, to parents and students. This approach will ultimately be best for everyone involved.
SECTION 2 - POLICY FOR ANONYMOUS CALLS AND LETTERS
The Section 2 staff receives many calls, e-mails and letters each day. On occasion, callers request to remain anonymous and authors of correspondence choose to remain anonymous. This type of communication is difficult, at best, for your Section 2 staff to handle. These anonymous communications are seeking specific interpretations on Bylaws and matters of eligibility. In many instances, a complaint is being filed with no way to confirm any information with member schools. The Section 2 Athletic Council resolved at the June 4, 2014, meeting to adopt the following policy as of July 1, 2014:
“Anonymous letters sent to the Section 2 shall be forwarded to the school administrator of the school in question by the Section 2 Executive Director, with no further action to be taken unless a violation is reported.
Anonymous callers shall be informed that the Section 2 staff has no authority to act upon anonymous calls.”
